You didn’t pour your energy into building your 5-star, service-based business just to spend your days with a DIY website that “kind of works”.
You’re already wearing all the hats so the last thing you need is to have your time and energy bogged down by battling tech issues, rewriting the same email replies, or wondering where all the leads went.
Having an old, outdated, and clunky website doesn’t just look unprofessional…it quietly chips away at your time, energy, and confidence every single day. If your website isn’t doing its job properly, you’re probably working twice as hard for half the results (and the thing is you might not even realise it!)
So let’s look at three sneaky ways your website could be secretly draining your time (and energy), and how a few smart tweaks can help you reclaim some of your hours AND sanity:
1. It’s a nightmare to use behind the scenes

First things first, let’s talk about the technical time suck. If your DIY website feels like a second job just to update it then that’s already SOOOO many hours of time being eaten up unnecessarily.
What should be a “quick 5-minute tweak” turns into a full-blown afternoon of hunting through settings, watching tutorials that might as well be in French, and endless Google searches. Want to add a new page? Tweak your layout? Change up some text? You either dread it, or avoid it all together which makes reaching your goals a slow process.
Fix it:
Your website should be easy to update. Investing in a professionally made website isn’t just about making it look good – it’s about getting something that’s catered around how your business runs so that you can make updates in minutes, not hours or days. If your website is absolute boob ache to use and eats up hours on the simplest of tasks, it’s time to upgrade.
2. You’re repeating yourself in DMs and emails
Ever find yourself answering the same DMs, explaining your process over and over, or battling with a hefty onboarding process? That’s a sign your website ISN’T communicating what you offer, how it works, or what happens next as clearly as it could.
A good website is like having a VA. It handles FAQs, explaining your services clearly, and guiding people to take the next step without you having to be there to hold their hand. But if you’re constantly replying to the same “how does this work?” messages, explaining the fundamentals of your offer on calls, or wasting time with back and forth emails to collect information your website could take for you, your website isn’t doing its job. That kind of admin adds up fast – especially when you’re already juggling 101 things!
What to check:
- Does your website make it immediately clear who you help and how?
- Are your images, offers, tone of voice, and brand representing the CURRENT version of your business?
- Are there any parts of my processes that can be automated upfront?
- Can a stranger understand how to book you in under 60 seconds?
3. It’s converting the wrong visitors (or none at all)

People are landing on your site – yay! But are either not doing anything (booo!) OR you find yourself getting enquiries from the wrong people and have to spend the time writing those “sorry we’re not a good fit” emails or worse – getting on a call and realising too late they’re not a good fit (wasting both your time and theirs.)
Not to mention the time spent on creating content, engaging on socials, and sending traffic to your site, so if it doesn’t convert the right people (or at all)? More time in the bin 👎
If your website is barely getting conversions it’s because it’s not strategically designed to lead visitors from “ooh, interesting” to “I need to work with her!” but if you are getting enquiries, just from the wrong people, then your website isn’t speaking to your best-fit, dream clients.
What to check:
- Is your message specific, or does it sound like you could be helping anyone and everyone?
- Does your site reflect the real value of your work, or does it still scream “DIY on a budget”?
- Is it easy to navigate – or does it feel like a clunky maze that’s hard work to get through?
- Are your calls to action clear – could people easily buy / book / fill in your enquiry form (even if it’s 4am and they’re half asleep)?
Your website should save you time NOT steal it

As I said in the beginning – you didn’t set up your business to be bogged down by a website that feels like a chore to use. You set up your business so you can do what you love, work with the best clients, and have more free time.
So when your website is draining your time, energy, and sanity, ask yourself – is it really worth the upkeep? Probably not. It’s time to upgrade to a website that works and grows WITH you. Check out my website services for service-based, female founders to see how we can make that happen.
